Our Caregivers

Little is known about the total number of individuals who may have served or are currently serving as military caregivers. We also know very little about who they are: they may be young or old. They may be spouses, neighbors, or parents.

My Story

My Story

In the last few years, I have had the privilege of serving as a caregiver to my husband,
Bob Dole. During a 10-month period when he was hospitalized at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, we spent time talking with wounded warriors and their family members. We met with parents of unmarried soldiers and comforted spouses trying to cope with their life-changing course of events.  In every experience, I’ve been struck with an urgent belief that we, as a society, must do a far better job supporting military family caregivers.
